Beatrice and the Brooklin Project
Brooklin Town Crier article from 2008
The Brooklin Town Crier met with the famous mouse recently along with her Worship, Mayor Pat Perkins, and Beatrice’s biggest fan, JoAnne Alexander, Senior Assistant in Children’s and Adult Services at the Whitby Public Library, to learn more.
Beatrice and JoAnne have been singing with young children and their parents with for 11 years at the Whitby Public Library. Mayor Perkins commends the duo for this “earliest of literacy programs” and for educating families about the value of the library service.
Now, anticipating the construction of the Brooklin Community Centre and Library, Beatrice has decided to raise funds for the Children’s Department of the new Brooklin library. And, JoAnne Alexander, in a volunteer capacity, is supporting these efforts whole-heartedly. “Beatrice has arrived in Brooklin,” she says and, “I am sure that it will be a very exciting time for all!”
Central to the fundraising plans is the recording of Beatrice’s first CD which is being generously sponsored by The Music Scene. Called “Cuddles and Lullabies,” this musical collaboration with JoAnne, and a number of Brooklin residents, will be sold and the proceeds used to support children’s programming in the new library.
In addition, Beatrice will be featured in a calendar and on bookmarks with Brooklin firefighters and with Whitby Fire Chief Kent McCarl. These will also be sold to raise funds.
Beatrice’s supporters are many and include the ladies of Group 74, the Real Canadian Super Store (which will host a free breakfast with Brooklin firefighters for the first 50 people to purchase a CD), Mayor Perkins, the Whitby Public Library Board, and local businesses.
Not yet had the opportunity to meet Beatrice? Never fear! She will be riding along side Mayor Perkins in the Brooklin Spring Fair Parade on Saturday, June 7th, and the next day, she will be performing at the Fair with JoAnne
Beatrice’s promotion schedule for the “Cuddles and Lullabies” CD is very busy with anticipated appearances at the June 14th Whitby Community Safety Day, the County Town Carnival, Whitby Harbour Days, and Camp Cullen - all leading up to the CD’s launch on September 6th 2008!
Welcome to Brooklin Beatrice and thanks for your support of children’s programming at the new Brooklin Library!
