Dear Sue and Group 74,

We are honoured that Group 74 chose Amica's charitable program " Helping Hands" as one of the charities to support this November. Our residents, staff and our own Helping Hands committee is thrilled with this amazing support/donation which will help to brighten the lives of seniors in the Durham Community during the holiday season!

Again, million thanks from all of us here at Amica at Whitby.

Warm Regards,

Group 74 is excited to announce that Brooklin will have it's own Santa's Elves Workshop this festive season. Join us at the Brooklin Community Centre at 8 Vipond Road on Saturday, November 29th, 2014 with a morning session from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and an afternoon session from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, as we host a very special workshop for the children.

Our plans are now complete for this year's Santa's Elf Workshop!  We are excited that we have had such a wonderful response again from the community.  We couldn't do what we do without the generous sponsorship and support of local businesses and community groups.

Charities of Choice:

The Christmas season is so special to Group 74, our community and we are thrilled to announce that we have selected 4 charities to support during our Santa's Elf Workshop!  We have never done anything like this before and we are honoured to be able to do so!
There is no better feeling than to help bring the spirit of Christmas to a family.

Our four selected charities include:

  • Salvation Army Toy & Food Drive
  • Keller Williams Turkey Drive - Monetary donation will be made & families are also invited to purchase a dinner for a family on site
  • Amica Helping Hands -  Monetary donation will be made
  • Muslim Welfare Centre - Monetary donation will be made

We are also helping Liam Mulcahy with his fundraising efforts to be able to continue his bike racing.

Amica Helping Hands Community Program

Amica Helping HandsAmica HELPING HANDS Community Program is a registered not–for–profit charity (2003). The Charity's sole mandate and mission is to help support and assist seniors in our region, many of whom live under the low income cut–off (LICO). Every December, the Amica HELPING HANDS Community Program distributes baskets full of non–perishable foods, a gift certificate for a local supermarket and a warm blanket to seniors in need. Most recipients of these baskets live alone and in poverty and a basket from Amica HELPING HANDS will be the only gift they will likely receive for the Holidays and throughout the year. These baskets are valued at $75.00 each. To–date we have distributed over 11,800 baskets throughout all of our Amica Communities!

In addition to the basket program, Amica HELPING HANDS supports the work of certain not–for–profit agencies and community centres across Canada that assist seniors in need. Amica HELPING HANDS donations to–date have allowed agencies in both British Columbia and Ontario to provide funds to expand health, wellness and social programs; 15–seater passenger vans to organizations that support underprivileged seniors; renovate recreation room for wellness programs for seniors living in supportive housing; and provide equipment to senior centres in poorer neighbourhoods to improve the quality of life of the seniors using the amenities.

The most in need seniors are often the most invisible. Each year  Amica at Whibty staff, and residents and their families look forward to making a great difference through our Amica HELPING HANDS community program by creating and donating helping hands baskets to vulnerable seniors in our community.  Our Amica Helping Hands Community Program  brings a better quality of life to Seniors who are marginalized and less fortunate. HELPING HANDS provides basic necessities, comforts, equipment and holiday gift baskets to Seniors who are usually alone and living in poverty. Thank you for helping us to make a difference in the Durham Community.

Muslim Welfare Centre

mwc logoGroup 74 is proud to have selected the Muslim Welfare Centre in Whitby as one of the charities of choice for this year's Santas' Elf Workshop.  We are long standing partners with the amazing group of ladies who help so many women and children in our community.  We invite you to visit their website to learn more about them and how you can help.

 Salvation Army

Salvation Army

Salvation Army will once again be on site at this year's Santa's Elf Workshop to collect toys & food donations for local families.  Families are invited to bring in donations and drop them off outside infront of the Brooklin Community Centre & Library.  The Salvation Army Truck will be outside all day accepting donations from the entire community!

There’s no greater way to strengthen your community then to participate in events that involve the training of children

Turkey Drive

Turkey DriveLast year Group 74 teamed up with Keller Williams Energy, the Brooklin Town Crier & our community to help families enjoy a Christmas dinner in our Region. We were able to help over 100 families and this year, with your help, we are looking to help more!

We are reaching out to the entire Brooklin community as well as we are inviting people who come to the elf event to also purchase a dinner there for families - we will have a table in the foyer of the community centre as well so members of the community can come by and donate.
